Omar Yasser Elmahdy Hafz

I am Omar Hafz, currently a PGY-1 Family Medicine resident at Mayo Clinic in Eau Claire. In 2023, I joined Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, as a postdoctoral research fellow in the Enteric Neuroscience Program (ENSP). Omar Mukhtar

Following my clinical practice in primary care and completing my graduate studies in public health, I led program evaluations and outbreak response in multiple locales, including Djibouti, Egypt, Lebanon, Oman, Morocco, South Africa, Ghana, and Ecuador. I have held leadership roles in large-scale public health emergencies, including the CDC’s Global COVID-19 Vaccine Response, the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, and the UN’s Mediterranean Refugee Response. Throughout my career, I have engaged at the patient, population, and policy levels to shape strategy and mobilize resources to deliver care to marginalized populations, including populations susceptible to vaccine-preventable diseases, urban asylees, undocumented migrants, and key populations affected by HIV/AIDS. I routinely manage country portfolios across complex environments, coordinating cross-functional teams, timelines, and budgets to deliver results in a compressed timeframe. My professional ethos is grounded in evidence, adaptability, and accountability, combined with a practical understanding of social and economic realities of any given setting to inform sustainable program design and implementation. My name is Salma Mohamed, a first-generation medical student with a dream to become a surgical oncologist who makes a real difference in the journey against cancer. From the first day I stepped into medical school, I knew this path wouldn't be that easy, but I also knew that challenges and dreams are what shape us into who we are meant to be. Being the first in my family to pursue medicine gives me a deep sense of responsibility and motivation.
